# Names, Attribution and Compatibility Claims

ecOS >_ CogPOSIX identifies the project, encompassing its operating-system
architecture, execution runtime and CogPOSIX system interface.
This policy does not assert registered
trademark status, POSIX certification or endorsement by a standards organization.

ecOS >_ CogPOSIX is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by,
or sponsored by IEEE or The Open Group. CogPOSIX is not POSIX-certified.
POSIX is a trademark of IEEE. References to POSIX describe the inspiration for
the interface, not an official revision or extension of the POSIX standard.

Accurate textual references to the project, attribution, discussion, and truthful
statements about an independent implementation are welcome. Clearly identify
modified or independent distributions and avoid suggesting endorsement or official
origin. Nothing here limits permissions granted by the applicable licenses or law.

The two supplied logos explicitly listed in the publication manifest may appear
in the project website and reviewed export, with reserved artwork rights under
the [artwork notice](assets/BRAND-NOTICE.md). They are not licensed by the software
or documentation grants. Other artwork remains excluded. Publication does not
grant an open artwork license, trademark rights or an endorsement permission.

There is no active "CogPOSIX Certified" program. Passing a public test suite can
support a precise factual statement such as "passes suite version X under profile
Y", with evidence and implementation version. It does not authorize an official
certification badge or imply security or model-quality certification.

Any future official program must publish its criteria, test versions, authorization
process, fees if any, appeal/revocation rules and mark permissions. Running the
community conformance suite remains free under its software license; paid audit
or support must not become a prerequisite for implementing the interface.
